A billing machine for a restaurant is either a standalone machine with its own software (₹10,990 – ₹24,999, one-time), a touch-screen POS terminal (₹25,999 – ₹49,995 for Android models, from ₹46,799 for Windows), or a computer, tablet or phone running billing software with a thermal receipt printer (₹1,628 – ₹2,499 for a 58 mm Bluetooth printer, ₹3,299 – ₹5,999 for an 80 mm counter printer). Restaurants with tables and KOTs are usually better off with a computer or phone and billing software; a one-counter shop with a short menu can do fine with a standalone machine.

The 3 kinds of restaurant billing machine
1. Standalone billing machine
A keypad or small screen with a 2 or 3 inch printer built in and its own billing software. You pay once — NGX advertises “no monthly rental” — and many have a battery for power cuts (NGX says all of theirs do). The catch is a fixed item memory and few restaurant features, so check tables, KOT and GST format on the exact model.
2. Touch-screen POS terminal
A touch computer built for the counter, running Windows or Android. Some Android ones have a printer inside. It looks neat and is quick to tap, but it is the most expensive option, and you still need billing software that runs on it.
3. Computer or phone + receipt printer
The billing software runs on a Windows PC or laptop, or an Android phone or tablet, and prints on a thermal receipt printer. If you already own the computer or phone, the printer is all you buy. The software has a monthly or yearly fee.

Which billing machine should your restaurant buy?
- Tea stall, food truck or small takeaway: an Android phone with a 58 mm Bluetooth printer (₹1,628 – ₹2,499). A standalone machine also works if your menu is short and you never want a monthly fee.
- Café or QSR counter: a Windows PC, laptop or touch POS with an 80 mm USB or LAN printer and a cash drawer.
- Restaurant or dhaba with tables: a Windows computer at the counter with an 80 mm printer. KOTs print on the same printer, or the kitchen reads orders on a kitchen display screen. Add an Android phone with a Bluetooth printer as a second billing point.

- Connection. USB or LAN for a Windows computer; Bluetooth for an Android phone or tablet.
- Auto-cutter. Saves tearing every bill by hand at a busy counter.
- RJ11 port on the printer if you want a cash drawer that opens on cash bills.

Do I need a separate printer for KOTs?
Not with billzova. Each billing computer or phone uses one printer for both the KOT and the bill. If you don’t want paper KOTs, the kitchen can see orders on a kitchen display screen instead — that screen needs internet to stay in sync.
Is a touch screen billing machine necessary?
No. A touch screen is quicker at a busy counter, but billzova’s Windows app also works with a mouse and keyboard on any Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) computer or laptop.
Does a billing machine work without internet?
A standalone billing machine does. The billzova Windows app keeps billing and printing bills and KOTs without internet and uploads everything when the connection is back.
Standalone billing machine or billing software — which is better?

Will the billing machine print GST bills?
billzova prints GST tax invoices with CGST and SGST split, or a Bill of Supply if you are under the composition scheme. For a standalone machine, check that the model supports your GST format before you buy.
